The aim of the workshop was to provide B.Arch Semester 3 students with practical experience in designing and representing railing concepts at a 1:1 scale using two balusters.
The activity aimed to enhance students’ understanding of actual dimensions, scale, proportion, ergonomics, functionality, and constructability while enabling them to translate architectural drawings and design concepts into full-scale physical representations.
The workshop provided students with hands-on experience in exploring and developing railing designs through full-scale experimentation. By representing their concepts at a 1:1 scale, participants gained a practical understanding of dimensions, proportions, spatial relationships, and the functional requirements of architectural elements. The activity bridged the gap between conceptual design and physical execution while strengthening students’ design development, technical understanding, and confidence in architectural detailing.
